There are 22.5 million native tagalog speaker and 21.9 million bisaya speaker (2010 stat). It is at par with 23 million native dutch speaker.
A meeting with other Filipinos in Germany made me realize that tagalog speaker is likely to speak tagalog at home while bisaya speaker speaks english.
I need to remind myself to speak more Bisaya with my kids. They should know more than to say “lami mamoy/ delicious pork”.
And yes, I would rather they learn Bisaya than tagalog because their mother is a BISDAK (hailing from Visayas).
Greetings,
Karlota
