So my brother is finally married. The wedding was lovely by the way with the bride crying hard and who knows why. Either because she finally is out from her father and stepmother’s clutches or because she seemed to be trapped still in that Filipino culture/ expectation/ manipulation even though she is already married.
A recap: Stepmother told my brother that he should not be angry/jealous or get in the way because the girl must continue to send them money still even after wedding. My brother said that it is her money and she does whatever she wanted with it.
Then after the wedding, the new bride asked my brother if his money/ earnings will be given to her. It seemed that some Filipino couple run their finances this way because wife mostly manages the household. An idea that is strange for me because my parents always hold a separate account. So what was my brother’s respond to the question?
No, I will not give my money to you but I will send it to my mom
I wonder how this work in the long run.
Do you keep your finances within the core family or are they being shared with extended family?
