Awards…  nichts, zilch

Student of the Year award

Attendance Award

Enthusiastic Learner Award

Homework Hero Award

Kindness Ambassador Award

Best Listener Award

Helping Hand Award

If you are in Philippines, these are some of the awards/medals / certificate that a student received after finishing school next to being Summa Cum Laude/ Valedictorian. You name it, they got it.  Strangely, not so in Germany.

My girl had her school end party and then the grades will be given at the end of school day before kids go on Summer holiday. No drama whatsoever.  If the kids did well or not and which school they can go next is nobody else’s business.

I find it liberating to be honest. I remember being embarrassed because nosy neighbors/relatives asked why I only got 1 award blah blah blah while the next kid has 10 of those fake golden medals from Colon Street hanging around their neck.

So Grundschule is done, hello Oberschule/ Gymnasium/ Klasse 5 in Germany or what we call Grade 5 in Philippines or Middle School in USA.

Greetings,

Karlota

Good luck on your kid’s schooling there. Hope he’s doing well with the Deutsch language.
